Government is the problem not the cure

In 1965 Medicaid began the transformation. Healthcare went from a functional market driven service (remember house calls?) with a total 5% of the average income to a government regulated and expense adjusted system that now hovers around 40% of the average income. The more government 'helps' the fewer there are that can afford healthcare.  That's how government works and we've been fooled into thinking we have no responsibility in this process. WE are a huge part of the probl em.  I went to see my cardiologist, Dr Hill in Muskegon. He was in the room with me for just under 5 minutes .... $280.00 PLUS 65 for an in-room EKG. I left with no results, no answers ... just two bills. Called the office a few days later to ask exactly what services I received and why the bill was so high ... they were incredulous at the nerve of my questions. I still have no answers.  EVERYTHING our state and federal governments are doing is worsening a problem that only cititzens can so...

What I've learned about progressives is this: whatever they call you is who they are and whatever they accuse you of is what they're doing.

The Question of Puerto Rican Statehood

Image
Tonight I've been reading lots of negative on social media about the latest bell ringing for Puerto Rican statehood. Many expressing fear that the federal government (us) might inherit Puerto Rico's massive debt.  It's important here to remember Puerto Rico is already a territory of the United States. The island has been under US control since 1898 and its people have been US Citizens since 1917. As a practical matter, the US Government already bears much responsibility for the economic conditions currently plaguing the island territory.  Why would Puerto Rico want statehood?  Puerto Rico, the 51st state, would gain the right to vote in presidential elections, two U.S. Senate seats and five US House seats. From their perspective, that's a significant betterment from the one non-voting delegate currently representing the territory.   They are US Citizens and can serve in our US Armed Forces, but they have no federal representation. Twenty

As I slowed to a stop at a red light I notice an elderly lady; very likely a grandmother and quite possibly a great-grandmother. She was alone, windows up with her eyes fixed on the stop light ahead like a caged tigress. She was singing at the top of her lungs. And, when I say singing - she was Rockin'! Yes, I laughed. But, then the light turned green and both life and traffic moved on. I didn't get far before my thoughts returned to the rockin' grandma. Doing the math in m ... y head ... I pictured her partying at a wild concert in say ... 1969. There she was dancing, singing, being young and loving life! That's when I remembered my father pointing to himself, "I still feel twenty inside".  Another red light pulled me away from such musings. That's when the music playing in my car (Bob Seger) fell into focus. Yes, I truly am in the car directly behind the Rockin' Grandma ... but, I still feel twenty inside!

Has it always been this way?

An extremely politically charged Justice Department and a judiciary either bent by politics, greed or both.  Is this something new or has it always been this way? Has our arena of ideas become a series of quickly forgotten sound bites? None seeking problems resolution or advancement, but undo credit or deflection.

The Widening Political Gap

Image
Shaking my head in disgust as I listen to the media bemoan the 'widening gap between the two extremes'. I get it - I am a right wing extremist, a Constitutionalist; worse, an originalist. Doubling down on my extreme positions I quote a founding father at least once per week. And, 'the other extreme' burns the US Flag, waves the flags of other countries, assaults the fabric of our society and advances global Marxism.  Yes, the gap is widening, but I haven't moved an inch - nor will I.

Trying to figure what to make of it all? It's easy .... honest.
