A Michigan Part-Time Legislature? Yes, please ....

Image
This week Michigan's Lt. Governor Brian Calley announced a petition drive and potential 2018 ballot initiative to make the Michigan legislature part-time. The firestorm that followed was immediate and frankly - predictable. Progressives went crazy while some on the grassroots right labeled it a litmus test, campaign stunt, etc. Unfortunately, snarky comments on Facebook seem to command the day. Sad.  Say what you will about L t. Governor Brian Calley; too conservative, not conservative enough, etc. etc. One thing is certain - he's consistent. He backed a push for a part-time Michigan State Legislature in 2014 and he's not retreating. I say, good for him! And, us!!  Keep in mind here, I have been campaigning for a part-time legislature since my time as a primary challenger in 2004. It wasn't a 'conservative litmus test' then and it isn't now. In fact, it's just common sense. So much so, it's an enigma to me how folks across the spectrum can see ...

That there is no distinction ...

That there is no distinction between foreign persons illegally entering the United States and lawful immigration is an Enigma to me.  In my very early twenties one of my job duties was going door-to-door collecting weekly insurance premiums from first generation Polish immigrants in Hamtramck, Michigan. That was my first experience with large numbers of immigrants.  They were wonderful people. Their yards were well maintained and US Flags flew on nearly every porch. Their dreams had come true. They had arrived in America and worked hard to assimilate; they wanted to be American. They ensured that their children learned English. They took part in civic events, civic duty and volunteerism. And, they did these things without sacrificing their heritage. By the way, I love perogies.  I contrast that experience along with several immigrants I've met over the years with the current political debate raging in the State of California specifically, but also in D.C. and across...

Trump Campaign and Transition Team Communications ....

Image
If they hadn't had (private) communication with the Russians AND most all the leadership of the Industrialized World - the same morons would be yelling about the lack of communication and preparation  .... In fact, I cannot find any examples of post WW2 major primary nominees for president that didn't have communication with world leadership and yes - Russian, including Carter, Dole, Bush Sr, Bill Clinton, Gore, GW Bush, McCain, Obama and Hillary Clinton, etc. etc.   We should be alarmed if a major party nominee or President Elect didn't have such communication with foreign leadership. The absence of this obvious logic from the current national conversation IS an Enigma to me.

They Just Don't Get It .... We've Had Enough!

On the Eve of the Montana Special Congressional Election Progressive News reported with delight that the supposed newsman altercation with the Montana Republican candidate would surely spell a Democrat victory .... um, no. This morning they (the media) blamed their loss on early voted (thought they loved early voting?). Their assumption is that some 23,000 people would have changed their vote. Folks, that they don't understand the obvious is truly an Enigma. They just don't get it. We've had enough! https://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/montana-house-special-election
